A couple claim someone is trying to kill their dog after they found razor blades wrapped in meat in their garden. Aidan Kaunhoven, 45, took his cockapoo, Perdie, into their garden on Wednesday (January 8) and noticed she was sniffing a pile of chorizo that he believes had been thrown over the fence.

Thankfully, he managed to stop his dog before she swallowed any of the chorizo. When he took a closer look he was “horrified” to find sharp razor blades had been hidden inside the sliced meat.

Aidan, and his wife, Debbie, believe that a stranger who “doesn’t like animals” is watching their house and targeting two-year-old Perdie, as three weeks earlier, they claim she had almost swallowed sausage meat that had been stuffed with nails and thrown into their garden. In December, they also found a “bucket load” of poisonous slug pellets in their garden.

The train driver, from Scarisbrick, said: “We were absolutely fuming. Luckily, we always go out with her and check what she’s doing. I noticed she was sniffing something and I stopped her before she could eat any. It was meat that had razor blades inside.

“A couple of weeks before, she was eating something in the garden and when we checked, we found hot dog meat with nails stuffed inside. She was eating one bit and luckily, she didn’t get a nail. And just before Christmas, we found a bucket load of slug pellets mixed in with a sticky substance.

“We thought it was a fox at first and didn’t think any more of it, but it was too much for an animal. It would have killed her. We are really angry. Why target her? We haven’t got any grievances.”

Aidan believes the culprit is someone who “doesn’t like dogs” and knows when the couple are at work. He said: “They know the area and they know our routine. They come when we’re out and it looks like they’ve gone up our neighbour’s driveway to throw it over.

“They know we have a dog in the back garden. There are a lot of dogs in the area, but they don’t target anyone else. I think they just don’t like animals, but why move to a rural area? We don’t understand it. Perdie doesn’t bark a lot and if she does, we stop her. There’s no excuse for it.”

The family have lived in the house for three years and have warned their neighbours, asked around for CCTV, and contacted West Lancashire Police following the attacks.

Aidan added: “My neighbours said that in the 30 years that they’ve lived here, nothing like this has ever happened. We’re so annoyed because we want to find them and break their nose. What has Perdie ever done to anyone? It’s creepy. We have to inspect the garden before she goes out and stay with her and we shouldn’t have to do that.”

A spokesperson for West Lancashire Police said they are making enquiries and anyone with information should call them on 101 quoting the log number (1028 of January 8th).
