Thousands of GWR half price tickets available in January sale

Thousands of rail travellers can start 2025 with a bargain after Great Western Railway (GWR) announced a January sale of 150,000 half-price tickets. The offer covers 100,000 standard class seats and 50,000 first class fares on some of the network’s busiest routes.

The budget tickets are available to purchase from tomorrow (January 2) until Thursday, January 9, for selected journeys between Friday, January 10, and Sunday, April 13. GWR runs services from London Paddington to Wales, the South West, and the Home Counties, with destinations such as Bath, Bristol, Exeter, Oxford and Cardiff.

GWR’s sales and marketing director, Amanda Burns, said: “The January Sale is designed to encourage people off the sofa and away from the post-Christmas telly, to explore the fantastic sights of the South West instead.

“Our advance fares offer great value throughout the year, but in our sale you’ll find some great deals available on some of the lowest fares. Why not give yourself something to look forward to this January and plan a weekend or trip away? The GWR network covers hundreds of the UK’s leading destinations and tourist attractions, so let us help inspire your next adventure.”

GWR advises that advance tickets are non-refundable. You can change the date and/or time of your ticket at any time before you travel, but there may be an admin fee of £10. If the price of your new ticket is more expensive, you’ll need to pay the difference.
