Three men have been charged with the murder of a man on Christmas Day.
Kirk Marsden, 37, was seriously injured outside The Gate Bar and Grill in Blackburn, Lancs, just after 4.45pm on Wednesday. Police were called to the area after reports of an altercation outside the pub, during which Kirk Marsden was hit by a Toyota Land Cruiser and suffered multiple injuries.
Kirk, from Blackburn, was taken to Royal Preston Hospital, but sadly died in the early hours of Boxing Day. Thomas Ward, 58, of no fixed address, Michael O’Neill, 35, of New Wellington Street, Blackburn and James Ward, 26, of no fixed address, have been charged with murder and are due in court in Preston.
Lancashire Police said: “Our thoughts remain with Kirk’s family who are being supported by specially trained officers.” In a tribute, Kirk’s family said: “To our hero, spread your wings far and wide your partner Leanne and your babies love you millions. You really were like no other, goodnight. Kirk you were a well-loved son, brother and uncle who will be sorely missed. Rest with your dad now in heaven.”
DCI Bryony Midgley, from our Force Major Investigation Team, said: “This incident has led to a man losing his life and first and foremost our thoughts remain with Kirk’s loved ones. This is being treated as an isolated incident and we know there was an altercation in The Gate prior to the fatal incident outside. I would ask any witnesses we haven’t already spoken to or anybody with mobile phone footage to also make contact with my team.
“I am aware that news of this incident will cause some concern in the community. I’d like to reassure everyone that we have increased reassurance patrols in the area.”
