Tommy Fury’s ‘hectic’ training regime to boost cardio and strength

Tommy Fury has lifted the lid on his favourite exercise which he uses to stay in shape. The boxer, who is undefeated as a professional, shared what he does for both strength and cardio workouts.

The 25-year-old, who has won all 10 of his pro fights, said weight training was a ‘massive’ part of his fitness regime and had been since he was ’12 or 13′. He added that it was crucial for both strength and fitness.

The cruiserweight also discussed the importance of lifting weights for his mental health. Speaking in an interview with Men’s Health, Tommy – who stands at 6ft (183cms) and usually tips the scales at around 13st (82.5kg) said: “Strength training is massive. Lifting weights and doing training with weights is something I’ve done since I was 12 or 13.

“I can remember being outside with my dad as a lad doing a weights circuit with him, following him around. I used to follow him on runs too. I basically looked at my dad and thought ‘right, if that’s what he does, I need to do the same’. When I got older, I started training with him.

“I’ve been in and around it the whole time and strength training keeps you fit, it keeps you strong, and it keeps your body nice and tight. I think you need weights to be strong and also, mentally, it is unbelievable.”

Tommy opened up on a wide range of issues in the interview, including his drinking problem which he blamed for the break-up of his relationship with his then-finacée Molly-Mae Hague. The pair, who met on Love Island but split in August last year, share daughter Bambi, who turns two later this month.

Tommy, from Manchester, said he began “drinking quite a lot” while unable to train after hand surgery. However, now he has fully recovered, he lifted the lid on his training routine as he looks to return to full fitness and fight again.

“At the moment, training is hectic. It’s usually pretty hectic but even more so now because I’ve had a long lay-off from last year so I’m trying to get as fit as I can and as strong as I can,” said Tommy, who is the half-brother of former world champion Tyson Fury.

“Right now, I’m basically doing every sort of training. I’m doing running, I’m doing swimming, I’m doing weights, I’m doing boxing, I’m doing circuits – whatever I can get my hands on, I’m just doing it. That’s what my training is looking like right now.

“I’m on a healthy plan eating the right foods, drinking the right drinks, and getting enough sleep. Everything is dialled in at the minute.”
