Huddersfield man Liam Hodgson has spent a third day clearing snow and ice from paths, car parks, drives and bus stops across Huddersfield and Elland.
Liam, 27, helped clear snow from outside care home and elderly people’s flats, as well as at bus stops and drives from Lindley to Salendine Nook and the down into Elland. He also helped dig several cars out.
He’d already done a two-day solo stint of snow clearing by the time he started out again on Tuesday morning. He is expecting to finish up for the day around 9 or 10pm on tonight (Tuesday, January 7).
Liam, who is a well-known boxer and door supervisor across Huddersfield and West Yorkshire, said he wanted to help people out while showing young people what can be achieved with effort and dedication.
He said people had offered to help, but he had yet to see anyone pick up a shovel and join him, although many kind people had provided him with tea, coffee and sweet treats.
He thanked Sainsbury’s in Lindley for lending him a snow shovel and a member of the public who provided some money for some warm gloves. Liam said people had been contacting him on his phone for help with clearing snow.
Local Huddersfield resident Alaina provided Liam with a coffee and said: “He’s a shining example of what community spirit is. A hot coffee and a flapjack kept him going a little longer.”
Many people took to social media to thank Liam. One called him a ‘total legend’. Another said: “There’s not a lot of people who would do this. He deserves some recognition for this.”
Liam is currently in training for a boxing match in Leeds on February 22 and described snow shovelling as a good workout as it left his muscles aching.
