A man has tragically died after being hit by a car in Burnley.
Emergency services were called to Padiham Road shortly after 5pm on Thursday (January 16) following reports of a road traffic collision involving a Hyundai IX20 car. Tragically, the pedestrian – a man in his 60s – died at the scene despite the best efforts of paramedics.
Lancashire Police said the road was closed for several hours to allow collision investigation work to be carried out. No arrests have been made and the man’s family and loved ones are being supported by specially trained officers.
An appeal for witnesses and footage from the area has now been launched. Anyone with information is asked to come forward.
In a statement, a force spokesperson said: “Lancashire Police are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage after a man very sadly died in a collision in Burnley. Our officers were called at 5.06pm yesterday to Padiham Road, Burnley, to a report of a road traffic collision.
“When they attended, it was found that a Hyundai IX20 car had been in collision with a pedestrian in the carriageway. The pedestrian – a man in his 60s – suffered serious injuries and very sadly was pronounced dead at hospital.
“Our thoughts are with the man’s family and loved ones at this distressing time and they were being supported by specially trained officers. The road was closed for several hours to allow collision investigation work to be carried out.”
Sgt Simon Strickland of our Roads Policing Unit, said: “My thoughts first and foremost are with the man’s family and loved ones at this sad and distressing time. As we investigate the collision, we are appealing for witnesses and any footage from the area around the time it happened.”
