Tributes have been left outside the city centre venue where The Vivienne started their career. News of the 32-year-old’s death over the weekend was confirmed by their publicist, Simon Jones.

In an emotional Instagram post, he explained how the renowned Cher impersonator, who began their line of work on the Pride Quarter’s Stanley Street, was more than just a client but also a friend. Simon said: “James was an incredibly loved, warm-hearted and amazing person.

“Their family are heartbroken at the loss of their son, brother and uncle. They are so proud of the wonderful things James achieved in their life and career.”

Since the news broke on Sunday, January 5, tributes have been pouring in from all over the world and no more so than from Liverpool – the city where The Vivienne made a name for herself before being catapulted to fame after winning the first series of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK in 2019

The likes of fellow RuPaul’s Drag Race winner Danny Beard, ex-husband David Ludford and the company behind Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, which The Vivienne was starring in as the Child Catcher just before the new year, have all spoken about how great the entertainer was.

Now, more kind words, alongside bunches of flowers and a candle, have been left outside Superstar Boudoir to honour the TV star. One message reads: “This was where you blossomed. Heartbroken. Love you forever”, while another adds: “Liverpool and the world has lost a true, legend. You will always be remembered.”

A third tribute said: “Thank you for being a voice for this community. Forever an icon, forever a legend and forever loved.”

The 32-year-old’s last Liverpool appearance was in December in Superstar Boudoir. The prodigy competed against other performers in a local version of Snatch Game, where they impersonated Donald Trump. At the start of their career, they worked at the safe space venue as a DJ and host. A vigil is being held in Liverpool to pay respect to the trailblazer this weekend.
