Tributes pour in for legendary Lancashire golfer and ‘great man’ after death

Tributes have poured in for a legendary Lancashire golfer who passed away recently.

Trevor Foster has been described as ‘one of England’s greatest Senior Team players’, who represented Lancashire 111 times between 1986 and 2018, being county champion in 1987 and 1990. In 1988, the talented golfer was also top of The Open leaderboard after 12 holes at Royal Lytham & St Annes, leading the likes of world superstars Seve Ballesteros, Nick Faldo and Fred Couples.

He passed away on Saturday 28 December, leaving behind his wife Debbie, son Ryan, daughter Nikki, and their three much-loved grandchildren. England Golf states Trevor will be best known for his prowess as a senior golfer, having represented England every year since 2016 and also representing Europe 2022 Concession Cup against USA at Valderrama – and was just one of two Europeans to win in the singles on the final day of the competition.

Trevor has been described as “the life and soul of any environment” he was in and a true gentleman and professional. England Golf adds: “He was the kindest, most generous person that anyone could meet, and gave his time and knowledge to anyone who reached out to him. He was also a loving father and doting grandfather.

“Our hearts go out to his family, especially his wife Debbie. Debbie was Trevor’s rock, walking thousands of miles being part of ‘Team Foster’, and together they were a formidable team, much-loved and feared at the same time. As an England player, Trevor was everything a captain could ask for. The minute he put the England shirt on, he became totally focused, giving everything to the game and its success.

“He was a stalwart of the England Seniors Team and will be remembered for all the right reasons; sportsmanship, camaraderie, a great friend and an all-round wonderful person who will be missed by everyone who he touched in his life. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of Trevor’s family and friends during this difficult time.”

As a competitor, Trevor won many titles including the Irish Senior Men’s Championship in 2018 and the English Senior Men’s Championship at Ashridge and Berkhamsted in 2022. His greatest achievement was winning the British Senior Men’s Championship at Porthcawl in 2018, which included a spectacular 63 (-9) in the first round.

The golfer also won the Silver Medal for the leading amateur at The Senior Open in 2021 at Sunningdale, and a bronze medal in the 2022 event at Gleneagles.
