Two Bristol rioters sentenced after violent disorder on Castle Park

Two men who were ‘significantly involved’ in the Bristol riots in August are the latest people to be sentenced, bringing the total number of people punished to 41. Andrew Heath, 51 from Caldicot, Wales, and Ebrim Jadama, a 20-year-old of no fixed abode, had both admitted to charges of violent disorder at earlier hearings.

Heath was sentenced on Wednesday, December 18 and Jadama was sentenced on Thursday, December 19. Jadama has received a custodial sentence and has been locked up. Heath’s sentence was suspended so he walked free from court after his hearing.

Bristol Crown Court heard that Heath, who was described as a “main offender” by Judge Macmillan, was part of the group in Castle Park and on Bristol Bridge and threw missiles towards police officers. He was sentenced to two years in prison with his sentence suspended for 18 months.

The court also heard that Jadama ignored requests to leave the area. Judge Burgess added that he was “pumped up, aggressive and spoiling for a fight”. Jadama was sentenced to 20 months in prison after the scenes of large-scale disorder and violence at an anti-immigration protest at Castle Park on August 3, 2024.

The judge said: “You got caught up in Castle Park and, however provoked, had no defence or excuse. You were one of those using physical violence. And shouting ‘who wants it?’ from the start.”

Detective Chief Inspector Tom Herbert said: “Both these men contributed significantly to the ugly scenes of violent disorder we saw in Bristol that evening.

“Their behaviour needlessly put officers and members of the public at risk and they have now rightly been punished. More than 40 people have now been sentenced for their part in the disorder with custodial sentences totalling more than 50 years having been handed down.

“This shows clearly that the sort of behaviour those individuals demonstrated on that day will not be tolerated.”
