The UK faces a giant 400-mile wall of snow – with just seven counties spared flurries – this weekend. Maps from WXCharts show a low pressure system moving up and across the UK through Friday, from southwest of England to the Midlands and the North.
By 9pm a chart shows the band stretching 402 miles, all the way from Derry in Northern Ireland to Ipswich on the east coast of England. There could be more than five centimetres falling per hour, the maps and charts also indicate.
Counties looking set to be spared include Cornwall, Dorset, Devon, Bristol, Gloucestershire, Somerset and Wiltshire. The BBC weather forecast for Friday (January 3) explains: “Today, cold with a mix of sunny spells and clouds for most. Southern areas will see plenty of winter sunshine. A few scattered showers further north, mainly around the coasts, these wintry in places.
