The UK faces EIGHT DAYS of snow in January as the exact dates are revealed. As we head beyond Christmas and the New Year and deeper into January, the UK faces being battered by days of snowfall as we head into the first month of the year.
According to WX Charts maps, which are projected using Met Desk data, a polar storm will begin from January 4 with 5cm per hour battering the country. By January 11, almost the entire country will be under the cold snap as the maps have turned white depicting the areas covered under snow.
The Met Office warns: “This, accompanied by strengthening winds, may lead to drifting of lying snow. In addition, as milder air moves northwards, snow may turn to a spell of freezing rain for a time, again more especially across parts of Wales, the Midlands and northern England, adding to the risk of ice and leading to some treacherous conditions in places.

“A fairly rapid thaw of lying snow is possible later on Sunday, although exactly how far north the rapid thaw will reach remains uncertain at this stage.” In the short-term, the Met Office outlook for Friday (January 3) explains: “It will remain cold but mostly dry and sunny for many. Snow showers will continue to affect coasts exposed to the northerly wind, but these will be more of a wintry mix of rain, sleet and snow in the west.”
Looking ahead to tonight, it adds: “Showers in the north and west, these wintry over the hills will move eastwards. Elsewhere with clear spells, temperatures will drop below freezing with a widespread frost developing for many.”
And the outlook for Saturday (January 4) adds: “A cold and frosty for many, however thicker cloud will spread in from the southwest during the afternoon, with a mixture of rain, sleet and snow pushing northwards overnight.”
