With chaos on Yorkshire’s roads, Kirklees Council has asked people not to travel at all unless it is absolutely necessary. This is because despite gritters working to salt the roads, a number have been struggling to navigate on the roads.
According to the council, this is because there are a number of cars blocking the roads. In a post, shared on the council’s social media, they said: “Please only travel today if your journey is essential, our gritters are doing the rounds but are struggling due to vehicles blocking the roads.”
Below, when asked about the gritters and why the roads weren’t already salted, the council added: “Sorry you’ve not spotted a gritter but we assure you they weren’t tucked up safe in bed. We have had gritters out all night and the full fleet plus extra resources are out now, snow settles on grit and can only be treated when it falls.
“Unfortunately there will be a period of time where roads are covered in snow until we can plough it.”
