Warning issued for anyone who is storing milk in their fridge

A warning has been issued to anyone who is storing milk in their fridge door. As the Cost of Living crisis continues, UK households risk spoiling their semi-skimmed, skimmed and full-fat milks prematurely due to storing it in the wrong place.

“Don’t put your milk on the fridge door like this,” said Cost of Living Crisis Tips while showing a milk cartoon tucked up against a fridge door. They added: “When you open the fridge door, it pulls away from the cool air – affecting the freshness,” before advising people to ‘put milk at the back of the fridge to make it last longer’ and adding that the move will ‘save you money’.

In reply, a viewer rushed to give their say and wrote: “But the door is open for like 2 seconds, maybe 10 depending on what you go in for but usually it’s shut straight away.” Cost of Living Crisis Tips replied: “Yes and how many times do you open it a day? It adds up.”

Another view wrote back, saying: “Lol all my life I’ve been placing it inside the door, NEVER had a problem.” And another typed: “It does actually work. I put ours behind the sprouts and the kids can’t find it so it lasts a lot longer.”

A third, meanwhile, agreed and said “Correct. Always done it this way.” Lynsey Crombie explained on ITV This Morning back in October: “Not many people know that your bottom self [of your fridge] is your coldest shelf, so this is where you want your raw meats.”

“Your deli meats and your cheeses should go on the top shelf because it’s a bit warmer there,” she went on. Lynsey continued to explain that the warmest part of the fridge is the door and, with this in mind, you shouldn’t store milk there.

Instead, you should put already-opened sauces and that kind of thing in the fridge door and keep the milk in the coldest part.
