Customers with mobile network EE have been sent an urgent warning about scammers who may be looking to target them. The company was named among those being used by criminals to try to get customers’ information.
Fraudsters will pose as a company and send messages or emails designed to look legitimate in the hope people will click links and hand over personal information. A common message offers fake discounts on bills in a bid to reel victims in and encourage them to click links. Now customers with EE and other networks are being urged to be cautious when they receive messages like these.
A giveaway that a text or WhatsApp message is bogus can often be found by checking the contact it has been sent from. If it is a number starting ’07’ or an email address you don’t recognise, it’s likely to be a scam. People are urged to ignore any messages which appear suspicious.

A warning was issued by Phonely, which tracks scam reports. They said: “Customers of major providers, such as EE, report calls offering fake bill reductions. Scammers use these calls to collect email addresses and direct victims to phishing sites designed to steal personal information.”
They added: “Fraud now accounts for 40% of all crimes in the UK, with phone scams remaining one of the most persistent and damaging tactics used by criminals. Despite the emergence of new scams, the same familiar schemes continue to dominate reports. Experts predict these trends will persist into 2025, as fraudsters exploit proven methods to deceive victims.
“Phonely’s ‘Who Called Me?’ platform, which receives thousands of daily visits, revealed that scammers are doubling down on widely recognised techniques.”
