We’re all aware of the nutritional content in our favourite fruits, but did you know there’s one variety packed with antioxidant properties too? Hannah Jago took to TikTok to unwrap the little-known benefits of the avocado.
She began her tutorial by demonstrating the perfect technique for extracting the avocado’s seed [or stone] – advising that you simply pop it out from behind after cutting the fruit in half. Before you unleash it’s potential, remember to give it a quick wash first, Hannah adds.
“Add the stone to a cup of water and boil it for five minutes,” she begins her recipe. “Once it’s boiling, turn down the temperature and simmer it for another five or 10 minutes.” Viewers can watch as the infusion turns a charming pink hue and the seed starts to shed its skin and crack open, revealing “all the goodness” within.

With the smooth peel fully removed and the stone neatly bisected, she places it back into the pot for an additional five minutes, culminating in a “deep, rich” red liquid. After fishing out the stone from the pan, she then stirs in half a teaspoon of honey to soften the “bitterness”.
“This is really full of rich antioxidants – really amazing if you have a cold, or if you’re just wanting to boost your health,” Hannah enthuses. And in her parting words, she said: “You then pour it into a mug and sip – you can see the gorgeous colour – it’s a really, really good drink for you.”
Hannah’s tip clearly struck a chord with her followers, with one user was enthusiastic, responding: “I will try this! Thank you, I read that putting honey in boiling water kills the honey’s properties, so I will leave it until its sill warm, but not boiling.”
Another was surprised by the novelty: “I never knew you could use the stone like that. I’ll give this a go, thanks! ” The advice even came as a revelation to some, as a third person exclaimed: “Wow. wish I knew this sooner! 100% going to try this.”
According to wellness website, One Green Planet, meanwhile, avocados are well-known health promoters that are packed with vitamins and antioxidants that do wonders for our skin, blood, tissue, and organs.
It adds: “The seed is actually where most of the fruit’s nutritional potential resides. The avocado seed holds 70 percent of the avocado’s antioxidants, including the well-respected polyphenols associated with green tea.
“Avocado seeds have more soluble fibre than even top-tier fibre providers. It has antioxidants that help regulate intestinal function and have even been shown to prevent tumour growth.”
