Westfield London debuts ‘Here We Glow’ light experience illuminating global landmarks

This January, Westfield London is set to brighten up the winter season with Here We Glow, an inspiring light experience designed to lift spirits. The free-to-visit attraction, running from January 23 to March 2, will feature eight mesmerising installations, including five created by renowned UK and international artists—some making their UK debut.

Touted as London’s must-see winter attraction, the artworks have been selected for their innovative designs, uplifting themes, and use of sustainable materials, promising to captivate art and design enthusiasts of all ages. Among the standout installations are The Anooki, two Inuit-inspired characters designed by French artists David Passegand and Moetu Batlle.

These globally celebrated figures have illuminated iconic locations such as Lyon’s Fête des Lumières and Dubai’s Burj Khalifa. Making their UK debut at Here We Glow, the playful yet poignant Anooki symbolise the delicate balance of our planet’s ecosystems, offering visitors a visually stunning and thought-provoking experience.

British artist Liz West is set to enchant visitors at Westfield London with her exclusive new commission titled Visible Light, drawing on the iconic architecture of the shopping centre to craft a mesmerising journey through kaleidoscopic light. In the same breath, Atelier Sisu’s awe-inspiring 8m bubble art installation, Evanescent, will invite guests at Westfield Square to step into a world of vibrant, colourful bubbles, accompanied by an alluring soundscape.

Laura Waters, General Manager at Westfield London, shared her enthusiasm: “We are excited to launch Here We Glow at Westfield London this winter. This extraordinary celebration of light and art provides a unique opportunity to engage with our community and make art accessible to all.

“With standout installations like The Anooki, making their London debut, and an exclusive new commission from British artist Liz West, we are excited to showcase creativity and innovation that will brighten the winter season and offer an unforgettable experience for visitors of all ages.”

Making its UK premiere at Here We Glow, The Anooki steal the show with their captivating inflated characters bouncing across London’s buildings. Immersing audiences in a world where playfulness and environmental consciousness go hand in hand, these adorable giants use light, music, and artistry to deliver a poignant eco-message amidst their charming antics.

The troupe glows against the night, a perfect blend of whimsical fun and poetry in motion.

Meanwhile, over at Westfield London, Liz West dazzles with “Visible Light” at The Village Entrance. Known for her brilliance in manipulating hues, the British artist draws inspiration from Westfield’s unique roof design to bring forth a breath-taking colour wheel installation.

Hanging boldly in space, her work is a harmonious dance of light and prisms, creating an immersive journey through a myriad of colours. As visitors wander around, they are enveloped by a dynamic interplay of light, lending itself to a profound sensory experience.

West’s creation not only lights up the architectural space but also profoundly explores the relationship between individuals and the spectrum of colour.

Adam Povey’s “Shifting Visions” at Westfield Square is a captivating blend of light and mirrors that mesmerises the onlooker. A piece symbolising perspective shifts through life, it reflects its environment and light in ever-changing ways to offer fresh experiences to viewers.

The Southern Terrace hosts Angelo Bonello’s “Tessellis”, an installation of 18 luminous, patterned tesserae which cycle through illumination patterns. The artwork evokes the spirit of ancient civilisations and propels visitors forward into a vision where wildlife roves through a futuristic cityscape.

Also at Westfield Square, Atelier Sisu’s “Evanescent” rises as an impressive 8m-tall bubble sculpture. During the day, sunshine enhances their shimmering surface; as darkness falls, internal lights transform them with vibrant hues, all set to a dreamlike soundtrack.
