Why a new mini-roundabout has suddenly appeared on a busy Cheltenham road

A new mini-roundabout is in operation on a busy A-road near a popular park in Cheltenham. The temporary mini-roundabout was put in overnight and is now in use today (Tuesday, January 14) on the A435 Evesham Road.

It’s been put in to facilitate the construction of new pedestrian crossings and traffic signals near Pittville Park, while keeping the traffic moving. The new junction is at the junction of Evesham Road and Wellington Road to the north of Cheltenham town centre.

The closure began at 8pm on Monday (January 13) and was due to finish at 6am on Tuesday. Motorists are urged to approach with care and give way to traffic.

Elsewhere in the county, temporary traffic lights will continue on the A436 at Barber Wood, near Ullenwood, until Friday, January 17 due to drainage CCTV investigation works. Expect delays.

A number of other closures of roads and pavements are scheduled for closures for roadworks in the county. These include Sellars Road and Church Lane in Hardwicke, Gloucester, for carriageway resurfacing, from Tuesday, January 14 to Friday, January 17 with closures in place from 9.30am to 3.30pm.

In Churchdown, the Pirton Lane bridge will be shut from 8pm to 6am until Friday, January 17.
