Woman and teenage girl taken to hospital after being hit by car

Police are investigating after a woman and a girl were hit by a car on Tuesday evening. The incident happened at St Luke’s Road in Pontypool at around 5.30pm on Tuesday, January 7.

A 50-year-old woman and a 17-year-old girl were hit by a blue Mini, Gwent Police said in a statement on Wednesday. Emergency workers from South Wales Fire and Rescue Service and the Welsh Ambulance Service also attended the scene.

The pedestrians were treated in the road before they were taken to hospital to receive further treatment for their injuries. In a statement the force appealed for help from the public with their enquiries.

A spokesperson said: “We received a report of a road traffic collision in St Luke’s Road, Pontypool at around 5.25pm on Tuesday, January 7. Officers attended, along with personnel from South Wales Fire and Rescue Service and the Welsh Ambulance Service.

“The collision involved a blue Mini and two pedestrians. The pedestrians, a 50-year-old woman and a 17-year-old girl, were taken to hospital for treatment. The incident caused heavy traffic in the area on Tuesday evening with locals reporting diversion routes at a “standstill” while the road was closed for around two hours.
