Woman charged with attacking elderly couple in Solihull New Year’s Day robbery

A woman has been charged with attacking an elderly couple in a Solihull town. The pensioners were assaulted in Shirley on New Year’s Day (Wednesday, January 1) in what police described a ‘robbery attempt’.

Melissa Elliker, from Shirley, was arrested earlier this month by officers investigating the incident. It saw a man and a woman injured in an attempted robbery.

The 36-year-old has been charged with attempted robbery and wounding. She has been remanded into custody to next appear at Birmingham Crown Court in three weeks time on Wednesday, February 5.

But police are still appealing for any witnesses or anyone with any details on the incident to come forward. A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: “We’ve charged a woman after an elderly couple were assaulted in Shirley on New Year’s Day.

“Melissa Elliker, 36, from Shirley, has been charged with attempted robbery and wounding. She has been remanded to appear at Birmingham Crown Court on 5 February.

“Elliker was arrested earlier this month by officers investigating the incident, which saw a man and a woman injured in an attempted robbery.
