Woman dies after house fire in Swansea

A woman has died after a house fire in the early hours of this morning in Swansea. The blaze began in the ground floor living room of a property in Pensalem Road, Penlan, at 5.42am on Thursday.

Three fire crews attended the scene to rescue people who were reported inside. Tragically, a 53-year-old woman died at the scene. A second casualty was taken to hospital after escaping through a first-floor window.

A spokesman for Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: “At 5.42am on Thursday, January 9, the Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service crews from Swansea Central, Morriston and Port Talbot fire stations were called to an incident on Pensalem Road in Penlan, Swansea.

“Crews responded to a fire within a domestic property, with persons reported inside. The property’s ground floor living room was well alight and crews utilised four breathing apparatus sets, one hose reel jet, one main jet, two thermal imaging cameras, one positive pressure fan and one reciprocating saw to extinguish the fire. Crews also isolated the property’s gas and electricity supplies.

“Sadly, a 53-year-old woman died at the scene. A second casualty escaped from the property through a first-floor window and was treated by paramedics before being conveyed to hospital by ambulance.
