TWO people have been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter after a horror house fire that killed a teenage girl.
Leah Casson, 18, sadly died after the tragedy in North Shields on January 16, 2023.
Cops were called to the property on Vicarage Street along with fire crews.
Three people managed to escape the fire – but unfortunately the Leah’s body was later found.
Two people have now been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter.
Officers re-arrested a woman in her 40s.
A man in his late teens was also arrested.
They have been released on police bail while enquiries continue.
A spokesperson from Northumbria Police said: “Our Major Investigation Team continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding her death, and the cause of the fire.
“Yesterday, officers re-arrested a woman in her 40s and made a further arrest of a man in his late teens.
“They were both arrested on suspicion of manslaughter, and have since been released on police bail, pending further enquiries.
“We very much continue to look into the circumstances surrounding Leah’s tragic death.
“The investigation into the cause of the fire is complex in nature – and two years on we remain committed to establishing what happened.”
Leah’s family previously paid an emotional tribute to their daughter.
They said: “As a family we are totally devastated by what has happened.
“Leah was an outgoing, bubbly young woman who we loved so much, and we can’t believe she has gone.
“Please let us grieve for her as a family and respect our privacy at this time.”
