Top NHS tips for losing weight healthily:
- Get active for 150 minutes a week – you can break this up into shorter sessions
- Aim to get your five-a-day – 80g of fresh, canned or frozen fruit or vegetables count as 1 portion
- Aim to lose one to two lbs, or 0.5 to 1kg, a week
- Read food labels – products with more green colour coding than amber and red are often a healthier option
- Swap sugary drinks for water – if you do not like the taste, add slices of lemon or lime for flavour
- Cut down on food that’s high in sugar and fat – start by swapping sugary cereal for wholegrain alternatives
- Share your weight loss plan with someone you trust – they can help motivate you when you have a bad day
Things NHS says you should avoid:
- Do not lose weight suddenly with diets
- Do not stock unhealthy food – popcorn, fruit and rice cakes can be healthier alternatives
- Do not skip meals – you might end up snacking more because you feel hungry
- Do not finish your plate if you’re full – you can save leftover food for the next day
On TikTok, user Emma Logsdon shared her impressive weight loss journey, revealing she went down several dress sizes from 215lbs (fifteen stone four pounds). By adopting a regular exercise routine, refining her diet, and eventually training as a bodybuilder, she managed to shed an incredible six stone.
Emma attributed part of her success to a specific “daily lunch” that is not only quick to prepare but also cost-effective. In a TikTok video, she described the meal: “Two minute lunch. 40g protein only $1.70 (£1.38).”
She began by instructing viewers to grab a large bowl for mixing ingredients. “First thing’s first, grab a big old bowl cause we’re just gonna be throwing a bunch of stuff in here. So you’re going to take your big bowl and you’re gonna set it on your food scale, tear it out, and you’re gonna add 110g of plain white rice, jasmine rice.”
Emma explained that she pre-cooks about four servings of rice to save time. When it’s time to eat, she simply reheats the rice.
She then added 81g of green beans to the bowl. With all ingredients prepped in advance, Emma mentioned that assembling the meal only requires microwaving it for approximately a minute. To finish, she topped the dish with avocado.
