Woolwich stabbings: Boy dead and another fighting for life

The first incident occurred on Monday, January 6, when an 18-year-old student from Shooters Hill Sixth Form College was stabbed on Prince Imperial Road at around 4.20pm.

He was rushed to hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

Less than 24 hours later, at 2.28pm on Tuesday, January 7, police were called to reports of another stabbing, this time aboard a Route 472 bus on Woolwich Church Road near the A205 South Circular junction.

Emergency services, including London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance, attended, but the 14-year-old boy died shortly after their arrival.

Following Monday’s stabbing, Shooters Hill Sixth Form College closed its doors today as police continued to investigate the attack on the Year 12 student.

In a message to parents, the college announced: “Due to an incident in Prince Imperial Road near Shooters Hill Sixth Form College, we have been asked to close the organisation for the day and for students to work remotely.”

Exams scheduled for today still took place, and the college has offered counselling to students affected by the violence.

Headteacher Geoff Osborne expressed his concerns for the injured student, saying: “Our thoughts are with the family and the victim, and we ask that everyone respects their privacy at this difficult time.”

No arrests have been made in connection with either incident at the time of writing, and police say enquiries are ongoing.

The incidents happened just 1.6 miles apart, which is roughly a half-hour walk between Woolwich Church Road, where the fatal stabbing occurred, and Prince Imperial Road, where the earlier stabbing took place.

We have approached the Metropolitan Police for more details on whether the incidents are being treated as connected or separate.

Police have cordoned off areas near both locations as they work to establish the circumstances surrounding the attacks.

Detectives are urging anyone with information to come forward.

For the fatal stabbing on the bus, witnesses are asked to contact police on 101, quoting reference 3795/07JAN25.

For the Prince Imperial Road stabbing, information can be shared using reference CAD 4354.
