Pupils at Wynstream Primary School in Exeter, had a thrilling day participating in a Hyett Education STEMbotics workshop. A group of year five and six pupils got to take part in a hands-on experience which introduced them to the fascinating world of robotics and engineering.
Hyett Education provides a range of school workshops with cross-curricular subject links in computing, design technology, engineering and science. They hope to ignite a passion for STEM by empowering students and teachers with expert-led, practical education experiences.
The pupils worked in teams to design, build, and programme their own robots. They also learned about different types of sensors, motors, and programming languages. As they experimented with various components and coding techniques, the pupils witnessed their creations come to life through the guidance of an engaging and knowledgeable instructor.
The workshop not only sparked curiosity but also developed essential skills such as problem-solving, critical thinking, and teamwork.
Wynstream Primary School Hosts Robotics workshop
Elise Redman, headteacher at Wynstream Primary School said: “We’re incredibly proud of our students’ achievements and grateful to Hyett Education for providing such a valuable learning opportunity. At Wynstream, the primary aim of our comprehensive computing curriculum is to provide children with the skills and knowledge they require to use technology positively, responsibly, and safely.
“We teach our pupils to be creators rather than merely consumers and use technology daily to ensure that learning is accessible to all pupils. Our curriculum encompasses coding, information technology and digital literacy. We develop computing skills in discrete lessons and integrate the use of computing across the curriculum so that pupils can use technology to enhance and share their learning in creative ways.”
Matthew Shanks, CEO of Education South West said: “At Education South West we believe that young people need to understand not only how to interact with technology but also how it works if they are to be prepared for the careers of the future. It’s brilliant that Wynstream pupils were able to take part in this exciting robotics workshop which helps to introduce coding and programming in a fun and accessible way.”
