The Yorkshire Vet’s Julian Norton was worried he might have inadvertently caused a rift in a marriage after an incident involving a dog and a rather intimate item. The 52 year old vet often deals with dogs that have ingested items they shouldn’t have, including a puppy that swallowed party poppers and another suspected of eating a mole.
He explained that retrieved items are cleaned and returned to owners for “evidential purposes”. However, one particular case left a man in trouble when his dog consumed a pair of women’s underwear.
Recounting the tale in Woman’s Weekly, Julian shared: “We retrieved a pair of lacy underpants from a Labrador and gave them to the husband and wife, who were so grateful that the dog was OK – until the wife said, ‘They’re not mine.'” This led to “a big commotion” as the couple left, leaving Julian concerned for their marriage, though the dog was unharmed. Julian also mentioned the importance of being “careful” when discussing pets with their owners, as emotions can run high if negligence is suggested.

He recalled a woman who was “quite distressed” when her dog ate a mole, fearing the animal would try to burrow out of her pet.
Fortunately, the woman’s dog was unharmed and she was able to see the humour in the situation later. On a separate occasion, Julian recounts how a young puppy managed to ingest a bag of party poppers, reports the Express.

His initial concern was that the dog might suffer from an obstruction or the poppers could detonate inside the pup. Thankfully, the puppy was alright and began to excrete small fragments of party popper in its faeces.
Julian gained popularity in 2015 as the primary practice showcased on The Yorkshire Vet. Since then, he has made several appearances on programmes like Our Great Yorkshire Life.
