Zara Tindall ‘almost crushed’ by horse during photoshoot on Australian beach

Zara Tindall had a close call with a horse during a glamorous photoshoot for the Magic Millions horse racing event on Australia’s Gold Coast. The equestrian champion and her husband Mike Tindall are regular attendees and ambassadors for the annual event.

As part of her ambassadorial duties, Zara, daughter of Princess Anne, participated in a beach photoshoot with the winning horses from the annual beach race. However, during the winners’ photo, one of the horses suddenly reared up, almost crushing Zara.

Thanks to her quick reactions and experience with horses, she managed to prevent the animal from falling on top of her, although it did come down hard on her shoulder. Despite the shock, Zara remained professional, calming the horse and continuing with the shoot.

This incident follows a serious injury suffered by her mother, Princess Anne, also an experienced horsewoman, just six months ago, believed to have been caused by a horse.

In June, the Princess Royal had a close call when she was hospitalised for five nights after an encounter with a horse near her Gatcombe Park residence. The incident, which resulted in a concussion and minor head injuries, led to the princess cancelling nine engagements, including a commemorative trip to Canada, reports the Mirror.

Following her recovery at her Gloucestershire home, she resumed her Royal duties. Zara Tindall, an accomplished equestrian who clinched a silver medal at the 2012 London Olympics, recently spoke about her aspirations during a visit to the Gold Coast.

With Brisbane set to host the 2032 Olympics, Zara expressed her desire to compete again: “I’d love to run another Olympics. But I’m very lucky even if I don’t – I got to ride at my home Olympics.” In addition, Zara shared insights into her passion for horse racing, a family tradition nurtured by her mother, Princess Anne, and her late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II.

She reminisced about how the late monarch cherished the breeding aspect of racing, saying: “Racing was a big part of her life and she absolutely loved the breeding side of it as well. With my mum and my grandmother, the equestrian side is a huge sort of connection between us. It was a special passion that they passed down.”
